Our Story
Created in 2018 as a single depot for Loss Prevention and Asset Protection devices, OneSource has scoured the globe to find the appropriate deterrents against product theft. Whether it is employee theft or shoplifting, both are on the rise with an appalling overall shrink in excess of 2% of all retail sales!
Researching the industry for the solutions offered by manufacturers, reveals a myriad of products with a wide variety of form factors, complexity and effectiveness. Complicating matters are the societal restraints placed upon venues to remain politically and socially correct in instances where theft is believed to be taking place. The established technologies prevalent across the retail sector are alarms, EAS, and CCTV. There exists today-
Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. With RFID systems, chips are attached to items to deter theft and collect information about the types of items being stolen.
Video analytic software. Video analytic software helps business owners examine footage from store security cameras more closely and effectively by instantly picking up on suspicious activity.
Facial recognition software. This is another type of software that can be used in connection with video surveillance systems. Facial recognition software can detect and identify known shoplifters as soon as they enter a retail store by comparing their face to photos stored in the database.
Smart display technology. With this type of system, valuable or high-theft products are flagged so that they set off an instant alert to loss prevention personnel when removed.
Smart shelves. The ability to detect the removal of product from specific shelves or displays based on defined criteria.
Biometrics. The use of unique physical characteristics, such as fingerprints or retinal scans, to identify employees and grant access against defined roles or rules.
Non-scan POS detection. The ability to identify transactions where merchandise passes through the checkout process without being properly scanned or identified.
All the research shows that CCTV is the most effective theft deterrent and OneSource has patented unique retrofit applications making existing devices even smarter, using CCTV.
